Blaine Shultz, Owner
About Blaine Shultz
Born and raised in Idaho, Blaine developed a love for nature from an early age. As a young adult, he chose to focus on traveling to broaden his scope of the world. In that time, he worked on small regenerative farms, gaining valuable skills and attuning himself to a simple life rooted in nature. That journey led him to Vermont in 2017, where he’s been homesteading and timber framing amongst an inspiring community of like-minded folks. He calls the town of Barnard home.
About Yeoman Joinery
Yeoman Joinery was born out of a deep reverence for the land. In our work, we aim to listen to the trees, allowing the natural qualities of the forest to translate into strong, enduring, and meaningful structures that combine both function and beauty.
Yeoman Joinery designs buildings with the goal of creating long-lasting, healthy spaces. We do this in collaboration with the client, as well as with local Vermont foresters and sawyers.
Whenever possible, we source timber directly from the property where the structure will be built, minimizing the environmental impact of every project. This practice helps both client and craftsperson build a strong, intentional connection to the finished product.
Yeoman Joinery prioritizes the use of hand tools. Though we commonly use power tools, we find hand tools to be the most enjoyable and effective to use in our kit. The closer we get to raw materials, the more we become one with them. Our goal is to promote meaningful and healthy lives, and hand tools are the vessel for achieving that goal. If anyone is interested in a fully hand-tooled timber frame, without the use of electricity or petrochemicals, we can do that!
Yeoman Joinery is a member of the Timber Framers Guild, Vermont Farm and Forest Viability Program and the Advisory Board of Randolph Technical and Career Center.
